Cranial LOOP, an example of innovative design

NEOS’ cranial fixation has been selected to be part of the DAMADEI project.

Cranial LOOP has been chosen as one of the case studies of the European project DAMADEI (Design and Advanced Materials as a Driver of European Innovation). NEOS Surgery’s 100% polymeric cranial fixation has been selected by the project members as a paramount example of high-performance polymers application in innovative designs.

Cranial LOOP is the first cranial fixation device totally made of PEEK (poly-ether-ether-ketone). Its ground-breaking smart design guarantees its perfect mechanical performance, as well as a total lack of artefacts in medical imaging technologies (CT scanning, MRI), which facilitates patient follow-up. Our products’ design has been previously recognized by the MDEA Award and by our presence at the Desig exhibition, organized by ENISA and the Cervantes Institute.

DAMADEI is a project jointly run by Materfad (in Barcelona), Happy Materials (in Prague) and the Danish Design Centre (in Copenhague). Its main objective is to consolidate a long-term collaborative European infrastructure to enhance the current network of partners through the involvement of the main European design sector and advanced materials stakeholders. The project can be followed through the website www.damadei.eu. Four workshops will take place along 2013 in which the project’s case studies will be presented, including Cranial LOOP.
